“Lou my beautiful sunshine ❤️ Happy 16 th Birthday 🎁🥳🎈🌺🎂 I love you with my whole heart ❤️” Klum captioned the commemorative post, expressing deep affection for her youngest daughter. Lou is one of four children Klum shares with her ex-husband, Grammy Award-winning musician Seal. Their children include Henry, 20, Johan, 18, and Leni, 21. The family unit also embraces Klum’s current husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, 36, who affectionately refers to himself as an “extra dad” to the four siblings.

While all of Klum’s children are growing up in the spotlight, Lou holds a special place in her mother’s heart for one particular reason: she’s the only one who has inherited Klum’s legendary passion for Halloween. In a 2021 interview with PEOPLE, the “America’s Got Talent” judge revealed her hopes of passing on her renowned Halloween party and elaborate costume traditions. “I was hoping that I would pass this on even to my kids, but out of four, there’s only one that really is going for it and that’s Lou,” Klum shared, recalling a year when Lou embraced the spirit by dressing as an anime character complete with “full on makeup, the hair, all the accessories.”

The close-knit family of six, including Klum, Kaulitz, and all four children, recently made a rare public appearance together, stepping out in Klum’s home country of Germany. On Thursday, September 18, they attended an Oktoberfest-inspired party hosted by Klum at Hofbräuhaus in Munich, alongside fellow supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio, as reported by WWD. The family fully immersed themselves in the festive atmosphere, donning traditional Bavarian attire. Klum radiated in a vibrant red and white dirndl, a classic dress featuring a lace-up bodice and wide apron skirt, complemented by a red flower crown and a necklace proudly displaying “Tom” in honor of her husband. Meanwhile, the men of the family – Kaulitz, Henry, and Johan – sported traditional lederhosen paired with vests and button-up shirts, showcasing a united family front.

Beyond the glitz and glamour, Klum often reflects on the profound journey of motherhood. In an exclusive July interview with PEOPLE, she offered a candid perspective on the enduring worries and joys of raising children. “When they’re young, you’re worried they’re going to jump in the pool or stick their finger in a socket,” she explained. “Then they’re driving. Then it’s sex, drugs and rock and roll. You hope the seed you planted in them grows. That they’re good people. That they’re healthy. But you always worry. And I know I’ll still be worrying when I’m 80.” Her words underscore the universal sentiment of parental love and concern, providing a poignant end to the celebration of Lou’s milestone birthday.
