**NEW YORK, NY** – *The Outsiders* Musical Announces North American Tour Featuring Tony Award-Winning Production
The critically acclaimed Broadway musical *The Outsiders*, a 2024 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, is set to embark on its highly anticipated North American tour, kicking off Wednesday, October 8. Co-producer Angelina Jolie, 50, reflects on the profound impact of the production, emphasizing its unexpected global appeal.
Since its Broadway debut on April 11, 2024, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, *The Outsiders* has captivated audiences and critics alike, securing four prestigious Tony Awards. Now, as it enters its second year on Broadway, the musical is extending its reach across the continent.
In exclusive videos shared by the production, Jolie discusses the journey of bringing S.E. Hinton’s seminal 1967 novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic film to the stage. “Somebody said, ‘You know, this is a uniquely American story.’ But I have also found it extraordinary how much the story has resonated globally,” Jolie remarked during a conversation with Danya Taymor, the musical’s director.
Jolie elaborated on this universal connection, stating, “It’s what we have in common. Everywhere in the world has something that has challenged those neighborhoods, those families, those people, where you’re wondering your place and where communities or class systems put people against each other and have made them feel very different and very separate.”
Tour Kicks Off in Tulsa, Oklahoma – The Story’s Origin
The North American tour will officially open at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, a location deeply significant to the story. Author S.E. Hinton, now 77, famously penned the original novel as a high school student within the very city that serves as the backdrop for Ponyboy Curtis and the enduring rivalry between the Greasers and the affluent Socs. The musical deftly navigates themes of self-discovery and the complexities of belonging, as its young protagonists dream of a future in a world that often refuses to accept them.
The tour is slated to visit more than 30 cities across the U.S. and Canada, with performances scheduled from October 2024 through September 2026. Jolie expressed her enthusiasm for the touring production, anticipating its power to reach new audiences. “It’s so different… And so that’s why I’m so excited, because I know the amount of people that are going to drag their fathers or drag somebody to go see it. And then it’s gonna be that person you drag that falls in love with it and has the profound experience,” she confidently shared.

The touring cast features a talented ensemble, including Nolan White, Banal Fambrini, Tyler Jordan Wesley, Travis Roy Rogers, Corbin Drew Ross, Emma Hearn, Jaydon Nget, Mark Doyle, Jackson Reagin, and Jordan DeAndre Williams. “The Stay Gold Project” Expands Its Reach
Beyond the stage, *The Outsiders* production is expanding its impactful “The Stay Gold Project” in partnership with SONIC Drive-In. This educational initiative, named after a poignant line from the novel, is designed to ensure that middle and high school students from public schools, who might not otherwise have the opportunity, can experience the musical. The project provides free tickets and essential educational resources. To date, this vital program has gifted over 2,000 tickets to New York City public school students, many of whom were experiencing a Broadway show for the very first time.
