Crucially, the company must now provide fans with a minimum of 24 hours’ advance notice if a tiered pricing structure is in place for tickets of the same type. This will clearly indicate that multiple price points exist and that more expensive tiers will be released only after the most affordable options have been exhausted.
Furthermore, the ticketing giant will improve the information displayed to fans during the often-stressful online queuing process. This includes presenting the full range of available prices for an event when individuals first join the queue and promptly updating them as cheaper ticket categories become unavailable. These changes are designed to help fans anticipate potential costs and make more informed purchasing decisions.
Mixed Reactions to the Resolution
Ticketmaster welcomed the CMA’s findings, stating, “We welcome the CMA’s confirmation there was no dynamic pricing, no unfair practices and that we did not breach consumer law.” However, the resolution has not entirely satisfied all parties. Lisa Webb, a consumer law expert at Which?, the U.K.’s consumer champion, expressed disappointment, remarking, “Those who felt ripped off when buying Oasis tickets last year will undoubtedly feel let down that Ticketmaster hasn’t been held to account for its past behavior.”
