Their long-standing connection came to light during the Wednesday, September 10 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, where Douglas, accompanied by his 46-year-old son Cameron Douglas, revealed a memorable first meeting with the then-11-year-old Barrymore.

Douglas recounted the unexpected encounter from the “early ’80s” at a popular New York City eatery called Columbus. “I’m in a restaurant called Columbus, and this is back in the early ’80s,” Douglas explained. “It was a real hot restaurant, the hot spot up in the Upper West Side on Columbus Avenue.” He vividly recalled the moment an “11-year-old young lady” approached his table to serve him. His playful response to her opening, ‘Hi, can I help you, please?’ was, ‘Well, is it past your bedtime?’ Despite the unconventional situation of a pre-teen working as a server, Douglas lightheartedly remarked that the future Charlie’s Angels star was “incredible.”

Adding another layer to their intertwined past, Michael Douglas further noted that around the same period, his son Cameron also crossed paths with Barrymore. This meeting took place at the now-defunct New York City nightclub Limelight, an establishment famously known for being the venue where Barrymore celebrated her 10th birthday. Barrymore, reflecting on her early years, acknowledged her frequent presence in such venues, quipping that she and Cameron “got into a lot of trouble” during those formative times. “And look at where we are now! I’m so proud of both of us,” the 50 First Dates actress added, highlighting their shared journey of growth.
