Hollywood’s iconic power couple, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck, may be navigating the complexities of their recent divorce, but sources confirm that their expansive blended family remains as tight-knit as ever. Despite the official end of their two-year marriage, the well-being of their five children collectively stands as their paramount priority, fostering an environment of continued unity and mutual respect.
After a highly publicized reunion and a second journey down the aisle in 2022, Lopez, 56, and Affleck, 53, announced their split earlier in 2024. The divorce proceedings officially commenced in August 2024 when Lopez filed for divorce, coinciding with what would have been their second wedding anniversary of their elaborate Georgia ceremony, which followed their intimate Las Vegas elopement on July 17, 2022.
However, the dissolution of their marital bond has done little to sever the deep connections forged between their children. Affleck shares three children—Violet, 19, Seraphina, 16, and Samuel, 13—with his ex-wife, actress Jennifer Garner, 53. Meanwhile, Lopez is mother to 17-year-old twins, Max and Emme, with her ex-husband, singer Marc Anthony, 56.

“Things between Ben and Jennifer are good,” an Affleck source revealed to PEOPLE. “Even though they’re not together anymore, they’ve stayed on friendly terms.” This sentiment is echoed by multiple insiders, emphasizing the couple’s concerted effort to maintain a harmonious co-parenting dynamic.
The bond among the children, in particular, has proven remarkably resilient. “The kids are still really close,” the Affleck source further elaborated. “They have the same groups of friends, they see each other and they talk all the time. They make sure the kids know they get along. The most important thing to both of them is raising their kids in a supportive environment, so they plan to stay in each other’s lives.” A Lopez source added, “She’s a great mom and always gave Ben’s kids the same love. Even though her contact with Ben is now more sporadic, they make sure the kids can spend time together whenever they want.”

The couple’s romantic saga spans two decades, beginning when they first met on the set of the film Gigli in 2002. They became engaged in November of that year, only to call off their wedding and separate in January 2004. Their paths converged once more in 2021, leading to a rekindled romance and a second engagement, culminating in their marriage in 2022. This rich history underscores their current commitment to fostering a stable environment for their children, despite their personal separations.
Reflecting on navigating challenging periods, Jennifer Lopez shared insights from an interview with the Spanish newspaper El País in May, prior to her world tour. She recounted a conversation with her twins during a difficult time last year: “I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’ I promised them that and I did it. And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”
Lopez continued, expressing pride in her resilience: “I’m happier that I’m a step further along than I was a year ago, two years ago, three years ago… I’m proud of myself for that and I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger and better because of it. So, it’s a great time to go out there and dance and sing and have a good time with everybody.”
This commitment from both Lopez and Affleck to prioritizing their children’s emotional well-being highlights a modern approach to divorce, focusing on continuity and support for their blended family. Their journey, marked by reconciliation and separation, ultimately remains guided by a shared dedication to their children’s future.
