Serena Williams Embarks on Epic Global Adventure with Daughters Olympia and Adira, Aiming for Seven Wonders of the World

Tennis icon Serena Williams has officially commenced an ambitious global odyssey with her two daughters, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., 7, and Adira River Ohanian, who is nearly two. The legendary athlete, now 43 and retired from professional tennis, revealed on Monday, August 4, via an Instagram post, that their year-long plan to visit the “Seven Wonders of the World” has begun with a spectacular trip to Niagara Falls.
“A year ago I told @olympiaohanian that we would start an epic girls trip that would include the 7 wonders of the world, and there are a lot of them!” Williams captioned a series of candid photographs on her social media. Her vision extends beyond a single list, encompassing “Natural wonders. Man made wonders. Ancient wonders. So we are going to do them all.”
The inaugural stop saw the trio enveloped in the mist and roar of Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, captured in vibrant photos where they sported matching bright red plastic ponchos, courtesy of the Niagara City Cruises. One particularly magical moment shared by Williams included a video showcasing a breathtaking rainbow arching gracefully across the powerful waterfalls, a testament to the natural beauty they witnessed up close. While Niagara Falls is an undisputed natural marvel, it’s important to clarify its standing among global landmarks. It is widely recognized as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of North America, a list that also includes the majestic Grand Canyon and the sprawling Yellowstone National Park. However, it is not part of the “New7Wonders of the World,” a list established in 2007 through a global poll. This distinguished roster comprises iconic man-made structures:
- the Great Wall of China
- Petra in Jordan
- Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
- Machu Picchu in Peru
- Chichén Itzá in Mexico
- the Colosseum in Rome, Italy
- and the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
Williams’ broader definition of “wonders” suggests a comprehensive exploration of global marvels, natural and architectural alike.
The journey builds upon the family’s already extensive travel experiences. Just two months prior, in June, Williams shared a humorous video detailing a late-night adventure with baby Adira in Berlin, Germany, candidly noting the realities of jet lag. The importance of family and these shared moments was recently underscored by Williams’ husband and Reddit co-founder, Alexis Ohanian, during an appearance on the Today show. He lauded Serena as an “even greater mom” than she is an athlete, stating, “She’s an amazing mother on top of an amazing business woman and sports icon… The thing that gives her so much joy is the simple things, you know, family.”
