Drew Scott Playfully Pushes Brother Jonathan on Wedding Plans, Praises Jeremy Renner’s Resilience at “A Sense Of Home” Gala
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Renowned HGTV star Drew Scott offered a lighthearted nudge to his twin brother, Jonathan Scott, regarding his impending nuptials to actress Zooey Deschanel, even jokingly offering to construct a bespoke wedding venue. Scott’s comments came during the “A Sense Of Home 10th Anniversary Gala” held on October 4th at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, an event where he also celebrated the remarkable recovery and philanthropic efforts of actor Jeremy Renner.

Drew Scott, 47, expressed his willingness “to do whatever it takes” to see his brother and Deschanel, 45, walk down the aisle. When queried by PEOPLE about the potential need to build a custom venue for the couple, who got engaged in August 2023 during a family trip to Scotland, Scott quipped, “I will offer to build a venue, right? I’m going to harass him. You know what? I will tell him that you told me. It’s not me pushing, but I was told… People were saying, that you need to get this done.”

Despite the playful pressure, Drew reassured that the couple’s unhurried approach to wedding planning is rooted in their busy lives and deep family bond. Jonathan Scott previously shared with PEOPLE in August that their focus has been on traveling with the children and filming their HGTV series, Chasing the West. Jonathan serves as a loving stepfather to Deschanel’s two children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik: daughter Elsie, 10, and son Charlie, 8. “They love each other. They’re amazing together. I’m like, ‘You guys, it’ll happen when it happens.’ And for now, they just love the time together with the kids,” Drew elaborated.
When they eventually exchange vows, Jonathan has expressed a desire for a celebration that is profoundly meaningful and intimate, bringing together their closest friends and family. The engagement itself was marked by a unique touch: Deschanel’s one-of-a-kind engagement ring, exclusively revealed by PEOPLE, resembles a vibrant flower crown adorned with colorful gemstones rather than a traditional diamond. “I didn’t want just a diamond ring,” she explained at the time, appreciating the “fun colors” of pink and purple.
A Night of Philanthropy: Honoring Jeremy Renner’s Strength
The evening at the “A Sense Of Home” gala, a Los Angeles-based nonprofit dedicated to furnishing homes for youth transitioning out of foster care and homeless veterans, also saw Drew Scott present an award to actor Jeremy Renner and his sister Kym Renner. The siblings were recognized for their impactful work with the RennerVation Foundation and The Change Reaction.

Drew, who has known Jeremy Renner for years and even collaborated on a renovation project, spoke passionately about the actor’s inspiring journey. He highlighted Renner’s incredible recovery from a near-fatal snowplow accident in January 2023, an ordeal that forced him to “literally, learn how to walk.” Scott noted how the challenging experience allowed Renner to “reconnect with a lot of his roots” and leverage “his star power to give back to kids and families,” underscoring Renner’s “big heart.”
Drew Scott’s Personal Joys
Accompanied by his wife, Linda Phan, Drew also shared a heartwarming update on their two young children, Parker, 3, and Piper, 16 months. Despite the demanding schedule, the “Property Brothers” star gushed about his “amazing” kids. He recounted a recent charming moment with his 16-month-old daughter Piper, who, at bedtime, attempted to join him for the gala by putting on her shoes. “She doesn’t quite talk yet, but she’s like… and she’s basically saying like, ‘I’m coming with you.’ So she’s trying to get dressed up to come here. I’m like, ‘Not for you tonight,'” he affectionately shared, illustrating the vibrant family life that keeps him grounded amidst his busy career and philanthropic endeavors.
