Kathryn Dennis Sentenced to Jail for DUI, Marking Latest Legal Setback
Charleston, S.C. – Kathryn Dennis, the 34-year-old former star of Bravo’s Southern Charm, has been convicted and sentenced to 30 days in jail for driving under the influence (DUI). Currently held in custody at the Berkeley County Detention Center in South Carolina, her sentencing follows an arrest in May 2024 that also included a charge for transporting an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

Public records from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office (BSCO) confirm that Dennis was booked on Friday, October 3, for both offenses. This conviction and subsequent jail time, reported by NBC Affiliate News 2 and Page Six, represent a significant legal consequence for the reality personality who departed from Southern Charm after eight seasons in January 2023.
Details of the May 2024 Arrest
The arrest that led to this conviction occurred on the evening of May 20, 2024. Just after 10 p.m. local time, officers from the Goose Creek Police Department (GCPD) in South Carolina stopped Dennis. According to a police report obtained by PEOPLE, responding officers noted that Dennis appeared “possibly impaired,” observing her with “glossy eyes and an odor of alcohol coming from her.” She was subsequently arrested for DUI. PEOPLE reached out to Dennis for comment on Saturday, October 4, but did not receive an immediate response.

Previous Legal Encounters
This is not Dennis’s first encounter with legal issues in recent years. In October 2023, a vehicle registered in her name was implicated in an alleged hit-and-run incident in South Carolina. Lance Corporal Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed to PEOPLE that an SUV struck a school resource officer who was directing traffic in front of Whitesville Elementary School. The officer sustained injuries and received on-site medical attention. The vehicle involved did not stop at the scene but was later located at Dennis’s address. While a source indicated Dennis’s involvement to PEOPLE, the South Carolina Highway Patrol did not officially confirm who was driving the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Dennis’s current incarceration marks a somber chapter for the public figure, who has faced various personal and legal challenges in the spotlight throughout her career.
