Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift: An “Enchanted Garden” Engagement
Pop Superstar Reveals NFL Star’s Fairytale Proposal Details
Global music sensation Taylor Swift has finally pulled back the curtain on the meticulously planned, fairytale proposal from NFL star Travis Kelce, revealing the clandestine operation that transformed his home into an “enchanted garden.” The couple, who announced their engagement on August 26th, captivated fans with stunning photographs of the romantic scene, leaving many to wonder about the logistics of such an elaborate setup. Now, Swift herself has offered insights into the grand gesture.

During an appearance on the U.K.’s “The Graham Norton Show” on Friday, October 3rd, to promote her latest album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” the 35-year-old multi-Grammy winner shared the surprising details of how Kelce, also 35, managed to execute the elaborate scheme right under her nose.

Swift explained that the masterful deception took place on August 13th, while she was a guest on “New Heights,” the popular podcast co-hosted by Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce. “We filmed the podcast for about three or four hours,” Swift recounted, adding that during this extensive recording session, “meanwhile behind his house, he was having the whole back garden turned into this.” The lengthy podcast commitment provided the perfect window for Kelce’s team to work their magic, making the subsequent proposal a genuine surprise.
When the couple publicly shared their joyous news on Instagram on August 26th, fans were treated to a carousel of breathtaking images showcasing the magical setting. The photographs captured a beaming Kelce down on one knee, holding a ring box, as Swift cradled his face in an emotional embrace. They were enveloped by an astonishing display of thousands of flowers, with a lush, greenery-wrapped arch and two elaborate rose-filled planters creating a picture-perfect frame for the engaged duo.

To grasp the true scale of this romantic endeavor, PEOPLE magazine consulted floral expert Ashley Greer, owner of D.C.-based Atelier Ashley Flowers, known for her work on the Obama White House Christmas trees. Greer immediately dubbed the scene an “enchanted garden” and provided a staggering estimation for its creation: up to $38,000 for all the blooms, greenery, and materials involved.

Greer delved into the meticulous details, estimating that the fairytale setting required approximately 800 pounds of diverse greenery, complemented by an impressive 1,200 roses and at least 1,000 other various flowers, bringing the total bloom count well over 2,000. She noted how the design “pull[ed] imagery from so many of [Swift’s] songs,” creating a magical atmosphere amidst August forest trees, incorporating elements like willow, ivy, and classic roses. The centerpiece of this floral masterpiece appeared to be a 20-foot “domed arboretum,” its metal structure intricately adorned with interwoven vines, roses, lilies, and twinkling candles. The ground installation itself was a work of art, featuring “boulders, river rocks, plants, white duchess peonies, white scabiosa, ferns and pockets of roses” to complete the immersive experience.
The engagement marks a significant milestone in the highly publicized romance between the pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, who were first linked in 2023. Their story famously began when Kelce revealed on his “New Heights” podcast in July 2023 that he had attempted to give Swift a friendship bracelet bearing his phone number at one of her record-breaking Eras Tour concerts. Following his public declaration of interest, the couple began seeing each other shortly thereafter, quickly becoming one of the most talked-about pairings in entertainment and sports.
The couple’s engagement announcement on Instagram was accompanied by a playful and endearing caption that resonated with fans: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”
