On September 23, The New York Times published a bombshell investigation detailing accusations of child sexual abuse against Errol Musk. Five of his children and stepchildren, spanning locations in California and South Africa, have accused him of sexual abuse that allegedly began as far back as 1993. The severity and duration of these claims have led to the opening of three separate police investigations, according to police, court records, and family members cited by the *Times*.
In response to these serious allegations, Errol Musk vehemently denied any wrongdoing, telling The New York Times that “the reports are false and nonsense in the extreme.” He further contended that the accusations were fabricated by family members who were “putting the children up to say false things” and attempting to extort money from his exceptionally wealthy son, Elon.
A Family Fractured: Intrafamilial Relationships and Abuse Claims
Beyond the recent abuse allegations, Errol Musk’s personal life has been defined by complex and often acrimonious family relationships. He even boasted that young Elon and Kimbal once sold some of these emeralds to Tiffany & Co. in New York City.
However, this opulent account stands in stark contrast to Elon Musk’s public statements. In a December 2019 tweet, Elon flatly refuted his father’s claims: “He didn’t own an emerald mine & I worked my way through college, ending up ~$100k in student debt.” Elon further denied any financial assistance from his father for his first company, Zip2, telling *Rolling Stone* in November 2017: “One thing he claims is he gave us a whole bunch of money to start, my brother and I… This is not true. My brother and I paid for college through scholarships, loans and working two jobs simultaneously. The funding we raised for our first company came from a small group of random angel investors in Silicon Valley.” Author Ashlee Vance, in his biography *Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX and the Quest for a Fantastic Future*, did state Errol invested $28,000 in Zip2, a claim Elon actively disputes.
Despite the profound disagreements, Elon has credited his father with his innate engineering abilities. “I’m naturally good at engineering that’s because I inherited it from my father,” he told *Rolling Stone*, adding, “What’s very difficult for others is easy for me.
