Aniston, 56, recounted the charming tale during a recent appearance on the Wednesday, September 10 episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. While gushing about her current beloved rescue companions, Lord Chesterfield and Clyde, she fondly reminisced about Norman, whose memory she carries with a permanent tattoo of his name on her foot.
Norman’s brief but pivotal moment in the spotlight occurred in a memorable Friends episode – “The one where Joey and Chandler babysit Ross’ baby, Ben, and they lose the baby.” As Joey and Chandler frantically searched the bustling New York City streets for the missing infant, Norman was one of many dogs featured on leashes, accompanying a quintessential New York dog walker.
It was during this filming that Aniston, already a passionate animal lover, approached the show’s animal trainer. “If there’s ever a dog you want to give up for adoption, or a dog that is available for adoption, I’m looking,” she recalled telling the trainer. To her surprise, the trainer revealed they had a candidate: “We do actually have a dog who we are going to retire because he’s very stubborn, he doesn’t do what we tell him, and he never hits his mark.”
That “difficult” dog, unfit for the demands of television stardom, was none other than Norman. His inability to conform to on-set commands became his ticket to a life of comfort and devotion. “I retired him and he became mine,” Aniston summarized, her words painting a picture of a perfect pet found through an unexpected twist of fate.
