Vivian Jenna Wilson: Forging Her Own Path Beyond Elon Musk’s Shadow
In a revealing interview with The Cut, Vivian Jenna Wilson, the 21-year-old estranged daughter of tech titan Elon Musk, has offered a candid glimpse into her life, ambitions, and financial realities, which stand in stark contrast to the immense wealth of her billionaire father. Despite being the offspring of one of the world’s richest individuals, Wilson is actively pursuing an independent future, focused on education and self-sufficiency.

Seeking Knowledge, Not Riches, Amidst College Expenses
Wilson expressed her firm intention to return to college this fall to further her studies in foreign languages. However, she openly acknowledged the financial hurdles, stating, “college is expensive,” and clarified that she does not possess “that inheritance” commonly associated with her family name. Dispelling widespread assumptions, she added, “People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal.”

Her current living situation further underscores her commitment to a grounded lifestyle. Wilson revealed she lives with three roommates, explaining, “it’s cheaper.” While her mother, Justine Wilson, Elon Musk’s ex-wife, is described as “rich,” Vivian notes that her father’s wealth is “unimaginable degrees of wealthy.” Despite this proximity to extreme affluence, Wilson maintains a clear perspective on her own desires. “I don’t have a desire to be superrich,” she asserted. “I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter and some expendable income, which is nice and much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”
A Fractured Family and an Expanding Lineage
Wilson has been vocal about her fractured relationship with her father, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. This personal distance extends to a surprisingly complex understanding of her own family tree. In a March interview with Teen Vogue, Wilson candidly addressed the ever-growing number of her siblings, admitting she doesn’t “actually know how many siblings” she has due to ongoing public revelations.

Elon Musk is now a father to at least 14 children across four different women. His extensive family includes:
- With Justine Wilson: Twins Vivian and Griffin, both 20 years old, and triplets Kai, Saxon, and Damian, 19. Their first son, Nevada Alexander, tragically died at 10 weeks old in 2002. This means Vivian has five living full siblings from her mother’s marriage to Musk.
- With singer Grimes: Three children – X Æ A-12, born in 2020; a daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl; and a son, Techno Mechanicus.
- With Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis: Four children – twins Strider and Azure, born in November 2021; daughter Arcadia, welcomed in February 2024; and son Seldon Lycurgus, secretly welcomed and announced in February 2025.
- With author Ashley St. Clair: One child, whose arrival was revealed in February 2025.
Vivian highlighted the unique challenge of keeping track of such a large and publicly expanding family. “I will say I do not actually know how many siblings I have, if you include half-siblings. That’s just a fun fact,” she stated. She even learned about the births of her half-siblings with Shivon Zilis “the same time everyone else did,” emphasizing her lack of prior knowledge.
Vivian Jenna Wilson’s narrative paints a picture of a young woman committed to defining her own path, prioritizing education, practical living, and personal independence over the vast and often overwhelming shadow of her father’s extraordinary wealth and public life.
