Keira Knightley Dives into High-Stakes Maritime Murder Mystery in Netflix’s ‘The Woman in Cabin 10’

Keira Knightley Leads Star-Studded Cast in Psychological Thriller Adapted from Ruth Ware’s Bestselling Novel, Premiering October 10

London, England – Esteemed actress Keira Knightley, 40, takes on a gripping new role as a journalist caught in a chilling murder mystery at sea in The Woman in Cabin 10. Netflix announced the highly anticipated film, based on Ruth Ware’s acclaimed 2016 novel, will begin streaming globally on October 10, following the debut of its revealing trailer on Tuesday, August 26.

The Woman in Cabin 10. Keira Knightley as Lo

Keira Knightley stars as protagonist Laura “Lo” Blacklock in “The Woman in Cabin 10.”

Knightley portrays Laura “Lo” Blacklock, a travel journalist on assignment aboard a luxurious yacht. What begins as a glamorous professional endeavor quickly spirals into a terrifying ordeal when Lo witnesses a body being thrown overboard late one night. Her harrowing account, however, is met with disbelief; the ship’s logs indicate all passengers and crew are accounted for, leading to a gaslighting scenario where Lo’s sanity is questioned. Despite facing skepticism and isolation, Lo embarks on a perilous quest for answers, placing her own life in grave danger as she uncovers the unsettling truth lurking beneath the calm facade of the high seas.

The film is helmed by acclaimed director Simon Stone, known for his incisive dramatic work. Stone recently shared insights into Knightley’s performance, telling PEOPLE in July that she has “done an extraordinary job of having this incredibly charismatic core that you totally believe, because it’s a gaslighting story.” He further emphasized the film’s intent to challenge historical narratives that dismiss female psychology, stating, “I went, no, I want the performance to be so convincing that you just go, ‘I believe you. I’m on your side, and I just want, with you, to find out what happened.’ And [Keira]’s so good at that.”

The ensemble cast features a strong lineup of talent, including Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, David Ajala, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kaya Scodelario, Art Malik, David Morrissey, and Daniel Ings. Their collective performances are set to bring Ware’s intricate plot to life, creating an atmosphere of suspense and psychological tension.

Author Ruth Ware, whose sequel novel The Woman in Suite 11 was published this past July, underscored the thematic resonance of her original work. In a statement, Ware described the movie’s core as “about a woman who experiences something wrong, reports it truthfully, and isn’t taken seriously because of who she is.” She added a powerful reflection on the widespread nature of such experiences: “Too many people know what that feels like and I think we want vindication for ourselves as much as Lo.”

As Lo navigates a labyrinth of deception where no one can be trusted and every shadow holds a potential threat, viewers will be drawn into a sophisticated thriller that questions perception and validates intuition. Mark your calendars for October 10, when The Woman in Cabin 10 offers a chilling escape into a world where seeing is not always believing, only on Netflix.
