JAKARTA, Indonesia — Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, has been permitted to resume operations in Indonesia, weeks after the country’s communications ministry imposed a ban due to the generation of explicit sexual content. The decision, announced by the communications ministry on Sunday, comes with stringent conditions and a commitment from X Corp, Grok’s developer, to implement significant service improvements and adhere strictly to Indonesian laws.

The initial ban, which took effect in January, saw both Indonesia and neighboring Malaysia block access to Grok. X Corp’s Commitment to Compliance

In a formal written commitment to the Indonesian communications ministry, X Corp outlined a series of measures to address these critical issues. The company stated it has taken concrete steps to curb the misuse of Grok services, which include restricting access to certain features identified as vulnerable to generating illicit content and reinforcing its compliance protocols with local regulations concerning digital content and child protection.
